Vertical heterogeneity is an important cause of nonhyperbolic
moveout. We start this section with reviewing the well-known results
of the isotropic theory. We show that these results can be interpreted
in terms of an effective anisotropy, which has different properties
than the transversally isotropic model. Then we extend the theory to
the case of anisotropy coupled with vertical heterogeneity and perform
a comparative analysis of different three-parameter nonhyperbolic
approximations.
