In this section, we summarize the main elements of
wave-equation migration velocity analysis, by closely following
the theory presented in Sava and Biondi (2004a,b).
The reader familiar with
those details can safely skip to the next section.
We begin with a quick discussion of
wavefield scattering in the context of wavefield
extrapolation and then define the objective function of our method
and the linearized image perturbations which enable us
to overcome the limitations of the first-order
Born approximation.
