- Learn about or download Ratfor 90 (improved Fortran) free from its author, Bob Clapp.
- Unpack and compile your own Ratfor77 (Rational Fortran) translator. We don't support this anymore. It is the last version we did support.
Scholarships and Fellowships !
SEP has funding (research assistantships) for all students who are admitted to the Stanford University Geophysics Department PhD program. These stipends cover reasonable living expenses (about $2500/month) and all university fees. You need to take international exams (GRE and TOEFL) etc. Here is why and how to apply. More questions? Send email to Professor Claerbout: claerbout @ stanford.eduSummer Jobs and Careers
Of 14 current PhD students (summer 2012), all are welcome to remain here at 180% of academic-year monthly stipends, but 9 have left for summer jobs paying about 220% of academic-year monthly stipends. Of about 60 PhD graduates since 1973, none are known to be unemployed, nearly all working in the general area they were trained in.Would you like to hear me?
In 2011 I spoke to an audience of earthquake seismologists, telling them a little of exploration seismology and something that might help them out.
Random advice from other people
From Sean Carroll. ``I tell my students to watch out for the thing that doesn't quite fit, the detail that would be easy to ignore. It sometimes happens that the unexpected residual signal you don't understand will lead to a discovery. More often, it is an artifact of the instrument or analysis, and even if it is real, it may not be what you first think. But the path forward is usually to choose a hypothesis, make a prediction, and test it. You may not find what you are looking for, but what you find may help you see the universe in a new way.''
