From the point of view
of the attenuation of the multiples, it is important that the migration
velocities be accurate enough for the primaries to be flat and the
multiples to exhibit residual moveout in ADCIGs. This is likely to be the
case for water-bottom and peg-leg multiples since water velocity is very different
from sediment velocity, but may not be so for internal multiples. Therefore,
the method is likely to be successful in attenuating water-bottoms and
peg-leg multiples even if there are small errors in the estimation of the migration
velocity field. Attenuation of internal multiples will require more accurate
migration velocities.
