Ride on Canada Road, toward Crystal Springs Reservoir. After you cross I-280, you start on a shallow downhill on a heavenly smooth road, and likely reach 25 mph+ speeds. When you turn left and see a Greek Temple, don't fall off your bike! You've reached the Pulgas Water Temple, which is a small monument at the terminus of the Hetch Hetchy Aqueduct. Although people rant and rave about how the dam and aqueduct are "unnatural" blemishes on the earth's surface, I think it's kind of cool to see how much wonder our forefathers put in the construction of new structures. The aqueduct was quite a feat of construction when built in the early 1900's. It runs 200 miles, from O'Shaughnessey Dam on the Tuolumne River in Yosemite National Park, ending in Crystal Springs Reservoir. |
