Don't Waste Your Time in the Canadian Rockies
By Kathy Copeland. Very nice guidebook. Opinionated is good! We followed the suggestions for our dayhikes and were not disappointed.

In August of 2000, I had the opportunity to take a (partially) subsidized trip to the Canadian Rockies, as the annual SEG meeting was being held in Calgary. James Rickett, Antoine Guitton, and I headed up three days early, for a 2-night backpacking trip over Burstall Pass and into the Palliser River Valley. Being used to the more "mellow" topography of Colorado and California, the sheer ruggedness of this place blew me away. Glacier-covered mountains rose more than a mile above deep, verdant valleys.

After the conference, with the stress of giving presentations past, Kim joined me for a fantastic week of dayhikes in Banff and Jasper National Parks. On our first day of hiking in Jasper, our sprits and bodies were dampened by a sudden snowstorm. The gods gave us good weather for the rest of our vacation, with the added bonus of no mosquitoes, thanks to the cold temperatures.
