My Roadtrek has been at the shop since September 3 and now it is October 17 with no end in sight. After it was in the shop for 3 weeks my dealer got a call from Fedders asking who had serviced my AC previously. The first time I tried to use my AC, I found it broken. I never had it serviced before. My dealer did not have it serviced before. Did you have it serviced before you installed it? I thought I purchased my new Roadtrek with a new AC. I propose you consider another vendor for roof air conditioners. My dealer tells me AC service is normally about a $600 event, three hours deinstalling it. Then taking it over the mountain to Fedders, and finally reversing the whole process. That is to say nothing of the aggravation. My dealer also mentioned having the problem with three other Roadtreks this year. I believe you purchase these ACs for about $300. I propose you consider the higher quality units that you could purchase from Japan. They make small units that include a heat strip, something the Fedders unit does not. A heat strip would be a significant enhancement to the Roadtrek. Now us owners need to mess with a portable electric heater. Japanese manufacturers have a reputation of better factory testing. I believe my roof air was dead on arrival, a fact I overlooked at the time, but never mind, I recognized it well within the warrantee period. I purchased my vehicle on September 4, 1995 from Guarantee in Scotts Valley CA. I am pleased with my dealer's performance in helping me through this difficulty. Sincerely, Jon Claerbout cc: Matt Hasson, General Manager, Guarantee RV ---------------- EPILOG: You won't be surprised to hear that Fedders pumped in more gas and that it worked for a few weeks before the gas leaked out again, my A/C giving up the ghost again because of a leak. So, for a decade I have carried around this unused, inoperable A/C because I am unwilling to drive over the mountain again and pay $600 for an ineffective repair.
