From htowsner@stanford.edu Thu May 1 16:15:58 2003 Date: 29 Apr 2003 15:26:40 -0700 From: Henry Towsner To: Howard Shen Cc: bill@koko.stanford.edu, potato@stanford.edu, trang , achriste@stanford.edu, camelot@stanford.edu, mbartsch@stanford.edu, sanliu@stanford.edu Subject: Re: Viennese Ball Response & Files Since the Viennese Ball's response primarily concerns historical and financial details, on which I certainly defer to them, the only points I'd like to make are to clarify a few misinterpretations of my statement by Mr. Shen. 1) The Viennese Ball denies that when a President takes office has any direct relevance to when the previous President's term ends. The relevance of this point escapes me, since I explicitly referred to the election of a new President, rather than the start of their term. I argued that "results are not valid, *and a President not elected*, until the election is certified." 2) I never implied that the Viennese Ball had 'deliberately lied' about the costs of attending the Ball. I did state, and stand by the claim, that students could be unaware that the Ball charged money prior to trying to get a ticket (particularly since the price is publicized primarily in the Spring, when freshmen would not see it). I did not say--and do not believe--that the Viennese Ball has intentionally tried to mislead students. 3) I have never claimed any ticket price other than $75 for a pair of tickets. I mentioned a $70 ticket price in passing as part of a hypothetical example. Henry
