Xtex under OpenWindows

If you are trying to use xtex on a Sun workstation but can't seem to get the figures to work because xtex always crashes and sends lots of gibberish like
process(0x430088, 'oas.Stanford.EDU NeWS client', runnable)
Error: /undefined
Command: XResource
Ostack: 11534436 /XLookupID
to your console window, you are trying to use OpenWindows 3 with an xtex written for OpenWindows 2.

Either get a new version of xtex that works, find a workstation still running 2.0, or rerun the document with figures turned off. (And of course complain to Sun for gratuitously changing their software in non backwards-compatible ways with each OpenWindows upgrade.)

\appendname {B: SEPLIB PROGRAM GLOSSARY}

This appendix gives brief descriptions of almost all of the SEPlib programs that come with the standard SEPlib release for widespread distribution. A few closely related non-SEPlib vplot utilities have been included as well, at the end.

To find out more, read the self-documentation. Most programs do not have manual pages (or very current manual pages), so if you need to know more than what you find in the self-doc you'll probably have to look at the source code.

The graphical language used by these programs is called ``vplot''. SEPlib's ``vplot'' has about as much to do with Versatec's ``vplot'' as calculus does with roman numerals. See the references for some articles describing vplot. While vplot does have several technical manual pages that describe it in great detail, a user's guide is unfortunately lacking.
