Screen graphics, or lack thereof

If ``Tube'' complains
Tube: No Graphics available on that device!!
or calls up an inappropriate vplot ``pen'' filter for your device, remember Tube just looks at your environment variables to try to figure out what sort of graphics might work. If you don't have TERM set to something it understands, it will get confused.

If you think Tube is getting confused, try looking at the source for Tube by doing

more `which Tube`
and see if you can figure something out. The list of ``pen'' filters in Tube may not correspond to the set of installed filters at your site; do

ls /sepcd2/MACHINE\_TYPE/bin/*pen

to see what vplot ``pen'' filters seem to be available.

If you simply don't have any screen graphics device or just can't get screen graphics to work, whenever you see ``Tube'' used to make screen plots in this document make a postscript hardcopy using ``Pspen'' instead (like in the figure captions).

Note there is a pen filter for Suntools (Sunpen), although it is a bit buggy and unmaintained, and there are always old tektronix 4010 emulators around (Tekpen). If you don't have a postscript printer, there is a ``pen'' for Imagen Impress-language printers that used to be SEP's workhorse for many years (Ipen). There is even a ``pen'' for printronix line printers that works surprisingly well, if you are happy making large plots (Lprpen). These pen filters may not be included in your particular SEPlib distribution, although they do exist and work.
