The chore of organizing in general

The biggest headache of delivering and receiving software is the chore of installing it. Our goal is to make this easy for both sides. The Apple Macintosh has gone a huge distance beyond ordinary researchers in this respect, but I contend that we can learn how to deliver and receive software as easily as we can deliver and receive any electronic document. We have already learned how to maintain our programs on the five binary platforms at SEP (by using network file system and compiling with cake) and that covers most of the job. With the help of Wes Bauske and Mark Chackerian we are rapidly learning the remaining job--how to extract the relevant portions of our home system and make instructions on how it can all be built elsewhere.
