Well-to-well log correlation: choosing the matching attribute

ABSTRACT

The geological factor that one wishes to resolve must be the guiding factor for choosing the correlation-attribute in well-to-well log matching. Opting for a smoothed version of the sonic logs leads to the matching of equivalent lithologic units, whereas using an attribute that measures the local relative variability of the logs results in the correlation of iso-chronological events.
