Topo map describing our climb of Mount Starr King in August, 2002. Pick your approach route carefully; we opted for the steep granite slopes of the southern summit's southwest side. Most people ascend the gully between the south and middle summits. Great camping can be had between the south and middle summits. Unless you like bushwhacking through manzanita hell and burned-out forests, descend the way you came. We enjoyed our second campsite (and the much-needed water) on the shore of Illiloutte Creek.
