Annotated route diagram of the route I climbed on Cockscomb. Secor's route (not shown) starts in the left-hand corner and traverses up and right to the summit. Bob Burd notes a 5.6 direct route on SummitPost.com. The red route deserves a 5.4 rating by modern standards, with quite a bit of fairly steep face climbing on "kitty litter" rock. The final 15 feet to the summit (the easternmost block with the piton & slings) goes a legitimate 5.4, although the rock is good and the holds large. The blue descent route is somewhat easier. From the top of the "chimney", descend an arete with solid holds. On the lower section of the climb, which is 45°+ face climbing, stay right and make use of good handholds on the sidewall.
