Antoine and I took the 4-hour ferry from Stavanger to Bergen. Bergen, Norway's second largest city, with 250,000 inhabitants, is quite a charming place. In the 1300's, it was a member of the Hanseatic trading league, in which traders from northern Germany set up trading outposts throughout northern Europe. The Bryggen area of Bergen preserves many of the original buildings, though the wooden ones have burned many times since the 1100's.

Today, the city is tidy, but lively. Much more fun than Stavanger!
