Setomaa: Vastseliina Linnus - Build in 1342 and finally destroyed during the Northern war in 1702 by the Russians. During the middle ages was known as a very important pilgrimage destination point. There was a holy cross in the chapel that the pilgrims worshiped, after after which their sins were forgiven. It was confirmed for the first time by Pope Innocent VI in 1354. Nearby was famous roadhouse first noted on roadmap in 1695. In middle of 19 century become a very significant place because of vodka industry/production. Tavern opened again in 1990s. |
