Abstract of the review article ``Extensions of Biot's theory of poroelasticity to complex porous media'' with Lewis Thigpen

We summarize recent efforts to extend the theory of poroelasticity to semilinear and nonlinear elastic response, to partially saturated pores, to inhomogeneous frame materials, and to viscous losses due to localized flow effects. The prospects for a comprehensive theory of wave propagation in porous media are also discussed.
