This older work on self-consistent analysis of elastic constants for composite elastic media has been brought up to date and also extended to include the differential effective medium approach in the following paper:

The first sections of the paper are strictly elastic analysis, while the remainder of the paper shows how to extend these ideas to poroelastic analysis.
