As shown by Margrave (1998), the generalization of
stationary convolution to the non-stationary case can be done in two
different ways called non-stationary convolution and non-stationary
combination. As identified by Rickett (2001), our
programs at the Stanford Exploration Project implement
non-stationary combination. This section intends to explain in a
matrix form the filter estimation step for non-stationary PEFs for
both non-stationary convolution and combination.
