Improvements in Constructing Seismic Image Using CDR , by Boris R. Zavalishin

- Translators note: In this paper, Dr. Zavalishin develops the ideas that were previously discussed in a paper in SEP-26: CDR- A Russian Form of Pre-Stack Migration. Since Soviet reflection seismology has developed in isolation from its Western counterpart, it should not be surprising that the same vocabulary is not used, nor that there are Soviet terms that have no direct English equivalent. Chief amoung these terms is CDR (Controlled Directional Reception). (Be sure to watch for the occasional appearance of old familiar CDP!) For the purposes of this paper, a CDR gather can be considered to be the same as a transposed slant-stack section, except that the vertical axis is delta t rather than p(delta t/delta x). I will attempt to explain some of the other terms as they crop up in the article.
