Computing at SEP can be very confusing for new students, especially ones who aren't familiar with networks and Unix. This page is designed to help new students get started. It is by no means a complete summary of everything you need to know so if you have questions definitely ASK a senior student!!

Computing
Environment
» This is a summary of the types of machines that we use here and what they are used for. Read it before you start running programs!

UNIX Setup » Contains information you need to know about starting your computer account here and modifying your personal environment.

New Accounts » If the person starting your account has trouble, send them here!

Makefiles » Explains how we do reproducible research using Make rules and Makefiles. Also has information on our compile rules.

Printing » Gives the basic commands to send and kill print jobs.

Other
Information
» Contains information on security and backups. It doesn't sound too important but it really is - read it!!

Building the
cluster
» Important checklist and directions for building our new Linux cluster.
