From 2-8 June, 2003, I hung out in Norway. I had an invited talk at the EAGE multiple attenuation workshop, but spent much of the time sightseeing with Antoine Guitton, Paul and Diana Sava, and Dimitri Bevc. Our mountaineering adventures were somewhat tame; for some really wild pictures and stories, try the webpages of Kristen Svines Aksnes or Arnt Flatmo.

Stavanger - Photos from in and around the city of Stavanger, where the meeting was held.
Tau - This is the small town east of Stavanger, and the gateway to much of Norway's southwestern fjords area. A fantastic, fast ferry ride traverses the Mosteroy between the two cities in 30 minutes.
Preikestolen - The most famous postcard photo from the southwestern fjords. This overhanging prow of granite juts into the air, 600 meters above beautiful Lysefjord.
Manafossen Waterfall - Drive east on highway 45 from Algard and go through the amazing 4 km tunnel to Frafjord, and then onto Manafossen, an incredible waterfall at the head of a scenic valley.
Bergen - Antoine and I took the ferry from Stavanger to Norway's "second city". Bergen is a lovely town of 250,000 -- compared to Stavanger, it's positively alive.
Kjeragbolten - Dimitri and I hiked from Oygardsstolen to this famous rock, which is simply a large chockstone...wedged between two walls of a cliff with a 1500-foot drop! Fantastic views of Lysefjord and of base jumpers.
