Warszawa - Gora ______

Day - 40km

TrIp - 40km

So begins the bike trip. Started out with Cam dropping me off at the airport. SFO had just ha a security break which can shut most everything down for a while. Waited for about 45 minutes to go through security, and then was informed that I had been "selected" for extra security (for the 5th flight in a row). SFO now has a special "puffer" machine that does a chemical analsis of the person in question. Remind me not to do a geophysical survey before heading through SFO. Plane borded on time, however, we sat on the runway for 30 minutes before they told us that the plane had been overloaded...So we came back to the gate and waited. I was getting kind of worried since my connecting plane to Warsaw was going to be close (They even screwed up the crossword puzzle in the magazine). Took off and landed at O'Hare and had to run across the airport and then recheck through security all in about 15 minutes. Fortunately, the earlier inbound flight from Warsaw was about 1 hour late so I had a bit of time.

Landed in Fredric Chopin airport in Warsaw at about 2.00pm. Customs was not much of a problem...just a stamp and breeze through. Probably will be more difficult next time. Not much is more exciting than landing in the middle of a big city, and trying to cycle your way out of it. Amidst blank stares, I wheeled my bike box and luggage out of the airport and on to the short-term parking lot. I then found out that I was missing some of the back derailleur, and had to find a bike shop at some time in the future. So I was left pretty much with a glorified 3-speed - one gear too high, one gear too low, and one just about right (kind of like Goldylocks).

Coming out of the airport, I took a few wrong turns and ended up in the midst of an industrial park. Carried my bike over a small path through the woods over some railroad tracks and found the correct road and managed to stick on it until I was out of Warszawa. Rode for about 40km until I arrived at Gora _____ at about 6.15pm. Found the Eurohotel, and then headed into town. Very few restaurants here as tourists are no doubt pretty sparse. Had a couple of beers, and then found a really cool bar that resembled an antique shop. The bar stools were 3-foot wooden stumps that were covered by mohair throw rugs. Much better than can be found in Palo Alto.
