Biondo Biondi's Classes

I teach a lecture class called 3-D Seismic Imaging in the Spring quarter. It is listed in the Stanford's Bulletin as Geophysics 280. The lectures are usually scheduled M-W-F 10:00-11:00.

The class covers the principles of imaging complex structures in the Earth subsurface by use of 3-D reflection seismology. Emphasis is on processing methodologies and algorithms, with examples of applications to field data. Topics include: acquisition geometries of land and marine 3-D seismic surveys, time vs. depth imaging, migration by Kirchhoff methods and by wave-equation methods, migration velocity analysis, velocity model building, imaging irregularly sampled and aliased data.
The class can be taken for 3 units with the labs, and for 2 units without the labs. The computational labs involve some programming.

The class is based on my text book 3-D Seismic Imaging . I usually provide a spiral-bounded copy of the book to the students. I plan to continue to do it as long the publisher of the book (SEG) allows me to do so.

Prospective students can get an idea of the topics covered in the lectures and the pace of the class downloading the PDF file of the lectures' schedule for the class as it was taught in the Spring of 2004.
