Alexander Mihai Popovici (University of Bucharest, Romania, equivalent B.S. in Geophysical and Geological Engineering, 1986; M.S. in Geophysics, 1990, Ph.D. in Geophysics, 1995, Stanford University), joined SEP in September 1988 and graduated in 1995. He still comes once a week to Stanford and takes care of SEP's system administration...

He defected from Romania in 1986, spent a year in a refugee camp in Austria, and came to the U.S. in 1987. From 1987 to 1988 he was employed at Guzik Technical as a staff engineer for magnetic recording and software development. He currently works as Director of Geophysical Imaging at 3DGeo Development, Palo Alto, California. He received the SEG Best Student Poster Award, and an SEG Best Poster Honorable Mention in 1994. He served as President of the Stanford University Geophysical Society (1990-1991). He is a member of the SEG and SPIE.
