Certainly everyone at SEP would enjoy using an environment that offers all the available software and hardware options. However, such an environment has an associated cost in the form of the time required to maintain it. If SEP will agree that we cannot afford to pay this price, then the authors suggest that the solution is to reduce the SEP computing environment to Linux-PCs (as a ``base system'' for both office and home use) and to the SGI Power Challenge (as a computational work-horse.)
