Conclusions

In view of the results that I have shown, I conclude that with the use of the right migration parameters, the application of Kirchhoff migration to 2-D synthetic seismic data results in an exact inversion of the data space to the image space, as predicted by theory. Furthermore, the incorrect use of migration parameters leads to undesirable artifacts in the output image, and above all to the incorrect imaging of the input data.

This work was done for my undergraduate thesis, and now I am investigating the application of Kirchhoff migration to 3-D seismic data.
