INVERSION OF SYNTHETICS: WATER OVER HALF-SPACE

In this section we compare the two AVO techniques for determining the near sea-floor parameters by using a simple model of 120 m of water overlying a half-space. In this case, the direct wave and the primary reflection from the seafloor will be unaffected by reflections from subsurface structure. The acoustic/elastic properties of the model are given by the following table:

layer vp2 (m/s) vs2 (m/s) $\rho_2$ (kg/m3)
water 1500 - 1050
sediment 1693 437 1900
Table 1: Properties of the water and the underlying half-space.

The synthetics were generated with a maximum frequency of 30 Hz and a water depth of 120 m. The offset sampling was 25 m, the zero-offset was 12.5 m and the time sampling was 2 ms. The maximum angle of incidence was 84$^\circ$ and the critical angle was 62$^\circ$.
