Summary

Although the imaging condition in plane wave synthesis imaging is equivalent to that of conventional profile imaging, plane wave synthesis imaging recovers full reflectivity matrix as de Bruin's imaging condition. This is achieved because of the property of the source wave field synthesized. Thus plane wave synthesis imaging is a promising method for recovering angle-dependent reflectivity for a nonflat reflector when lateral velocity changes. A test of a simple synthetic data showed that plane wave synthesis imaging among three imaging techniques provide the closest result to the theoretical solution.
