Introduction

The objective of reflection seismic techniques is the recovery of information of the subsurface with seismic soundings. In order to achieve this goal, one needs to solve an inverse problem by inferring the values of the model parameters of the subsurface from given data collected at the surface. There have been many theoretical and practical approaches to the seismic inverse problem. The primary motivation for the work developed in this thesis is the need to improve interval velocity estimation and reflectivity imaging in a practical inversion approach.
