Vectorized initial-value ray tracing for arbitrary velocity models
, by Jos van Trier
Iterative velocity-inversion methods often require tracing many rays. Consequently,
vectorizing the ray tracing algorithm can significantly reduce the computational cost
of these inversion methods. It is possible to vectorize a initial-value ray tracing
method that is based on the numerical integration of the system of ray tracing equations.
The method can handle general velocity models. A spline representation of the velocity
model is used in the solution of the ray tracing equations.
