Conventional deconvolution produces a glut of innovation impulses, most of which represent high frequency noise. Varimax deconvolution decreases the noise. More realistic estimated filters and further noise reduction can be acheived by finding and using the filter which maximizes subject to where is the filter's input and convolved with is the observed filter output.
