We have shown
how dynamic programming can be applied
to a series of seismic trace alignment problems.
For many cases, a straight implementation of an
algorithm developed for protein sequences is desirable.
For problems with relatively high coherent noise,
and when extending from 1-D to multiple dimensions,
more complex dynamic programming algorithms can be useful.
With further work, this approach may supply a general
tool for nonlinear alignment of seismic traces for use in processing
and interpretation.
