Theoretical fundamentals of this work are introduced in Chapter . I pose data regularization as an optimization problem and trace its statistical roots. The optimization objective consists of two parts: fitting the observed data with the forward modeling operator and ``styling'' the model with an appropriately chosen regularization operator.
