The forward modeling experiment suggests that it is important to include anisotropy as part of the inversion.
For joint inversion, proper parametrization can give balanced updates to each model variable. Velocity parametrization and logarithmic slowness parametrization are both good candidates in that sense.
Actual inversion using these parametrization needs to be further studied.
